I am a tenured Senior Scientist working at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifs.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institut za fiziku, Zagreb<\/a>, and leading <em>Surfaces, Interfaces &amp; 2D Materials Research Group<\/em>. My research interests are in condensed matter physics and surface science. Our present focus is on atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) materials as promising platforms for developing various applications. This line of research started with the synthesis of highly-uniform epitaxial graphene and investigations of the graphene-substrate interaction effects. We were the first to experimentally confirm superlattice effects in the electronic structure of graphene emerging from the moir\u00e9 structure of graphene on Ir(111).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/link.aps.org\/abstract\/PRL\/v102\/e056808\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"http:\/\/link.aps.org\/abstract\/PRL\/v102\/e056808 noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-8 size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/marko-kralj.from.hr\/files\/2012\/11\/title_DC-300x238.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"238\" srcset=\"http:\/\/marko-kralj.from.hr\/files\/2012\/11\/title_DC-300x238.jpg 300w, http:\/\/marko-kralj.from.hr\/files\/2012\/11\/title_DC.jpg 324w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Figure shows ARPES spectra with the relevant area of the bandstructure for the gr\/Ir(111) system &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prl\/abstract\/10.1103\/PhysRevLett.102.056808\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PRL2009<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the research expanded through the range of atomically thin materials and heterostructures fabrication methods and characterization.
